Assignment 3 Picture Log

Here you can see me playing on the Xbox 360 on Halo 4 this was to show that i can set up a basic console and play on local competitive multiplier matches with the college this was a fun hing to do because i was just showing what i already new how to do.

In this image i am one again playing on the Xbox 360 console but here i am setting up the match for our multiplayer even this was fun and a very enjoyably moment for us.

here you can see me handling a controller for the super Nintendo entertainment system this was to show me handling he pad before i eventually set up the console to have a competitive one and one match this was a simple process.

Here you can see me playing on the console this was to show me playing on it straight after setting the console up this was fun and very enjoyable to go back in time and have some fun.

Here yo can see me setting up the PlayStation 4 and then playing on it this is to show that I can set up a PlayStation 4 and then play on it and access all of its cool features in which you can see in the above.  

Here you can see me setting up the Xbox 360 and then soon after playing on the console this was an easy process due to the fact I have had plenty of experience with Xbox 360 and because its just a simple console to set up.

Task 2 – Design spec

RAM
The console i have designed will have 2GB of DDR3 RAM this is a universal power supply and it is also what the PS4 contains along with 8GB of dedicated GDDR5 RAM the RAM is capable of allot of things and it enable the console i have designed to run smooth and to enable it to run next gen games allot faster and allot easier during the time it will be used inside the actual console. The RAM is one of the main part of a console so that is why i have chosen to use a PS4s because of this reason and because it is pretty reliable for the console i am designing. The cost of its RAM is around £210   

CPU
for my CPU i will be using the Alien-Ware M11x R1 R2 CPU Heat-sink with Fan HRN0P 0HRN0P this is a powerful CPU and i believe it to be one of the best you can get so that is why i have chosen this one the CPU is capable of doing almost anything and it is able to make my console run faster and overall be a better console. The cost of the CPU is around £79

GRAPHIC PROCESSOR
The console will use a semi-custom accelerated processing unit (APU) developed by AMD in cooperation with Sony and is manufactured on the TSMC 28 nm process node.[1] Its APU is a single-chip that combines a central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU), as well as other components such as a memory controller and video decoder the console will always have the dedicated graphics processor so that people wont have any problems during here time on the console. The Graphics processor is around £82 

VIDEO DISPLAY OUTPUT 
I will be using any thing from 52 inch plasma screen TVs form computer monitors this will allow the console to be usable on almost every home TVs or PCs screens this allows the console to be used on most consoles this allows it to work on everything and it just allows it to function well because of this reason.   

SOUND AUDIO
for my sound audio i will be using integrated speakers this will allow the sound quality to be very good and it will basically allow player to hear what they are playing on instead of just dead silence. The speakers will just be basic but they will overall do their job so there wont be a problem when it comes to the sound quality of the console. 
   
INTERNAL STORAGE
my internal storage will be a  San-disk hard drive the hard drive will have 256GB with 20GB of extra storage the hard drive has a liquid cooling system to ensure that it doesn't overheat and it has allot of memory to ensure that the console will be able to hold saved data and allot of it or the games it will be running on it. the storage will allow most games to be installed onto it and it is capable of holding pleanty of the games on it for as long as it possibly can. The cost of this would be around £118

PORTABLE STORAGE MEDIA 
The console will  have and accessible memory stitch in which will be optional for people to store extra data on or just to put something on the console this will allow you to access from another console and put in onto the console you are actually thins could be you account of just a DLC in which you have purchased and put onto the memory stick. This would cost around £69

POWER SUPPLY
the power supply will look kind of like the PS4 but the difference will be that the power is only coming threw one side of the console the left side of it is where all the wires and other things will be plugged into it so that the right side is clear sand their is no clutter around this also helps to hide some of the wires by putting them there this will also ensure that the wires will be easy to get to and they wont be all around the console. This would cost £29

CONTROLLER
The controller will be my own design and you will be able to see it at the top of the page.

CONNECTIVITY 
The connection will be fast between modems and controllers this will allow the console to be fast and very efficient for when it is in use. the connection speed will be fast and it will beat its competitors at this.  
   
SOFTWARE KERNEL 
In computing, the kernel is a computer program that manages input/output requests from software and translates them into data processing instructions for the central processing unit and other electronic components of a computer. The kernel is a fundamental part of a modern computer's operating system. so for that reason i will be using a similar one to Xbox and near enough a copy of PlayStation so therefore i will be using the same as PlayStation.  

The overall cost of my console would be £587 this is a reasonable price considering what is inside the console.

Task 3 - Glossary of Terms

Central Processing unit - The part of a computer in which operations are controlled and operated.

Random Access Memory - the most common computer memory which can be used by programs to perform necessary tasks while the computer is on; an integrated circuit memory chip allows information to be stored or accessed in any order and all storage locations are equally accessible

Storage Media - A data storage device is a device for recording information. Recording can be done using virtually any form of energy, spanning from manual muscle power in handwriting, to acoustic vibrations in phonographic recording, to electromagnetic energy modulating magnetic tape and optical discs

Cache - a collection of items of the same type stored in a hidden or inaccessible place.

Graphic processor - This is what makes the image appear it is what renders the image to enable players to see what they are doing and to see what is going on with he game.

Video Display Output - this is the screen in which the games console is shown on and it is what you will need to play the games you are playing on.

Sound Audio - this is the sound from what the games make too enable different reactions from what is going on in the overall games console.

Power supply - This is what is used to power up the console it is what is used too enable you too play on the console because it is its version a battery so it is what powers the console.

Software kernel - this is the consoles version off a dashboard an example being Xbox home his is whee the console is commanded from whilst it is being used by its users.

HCI - This is what is used for when the computer or console interacts with the users and it is what is used to control the console of computer.

LAN - It is a group  of devises connected to a single server threw the local area.

GPRS - A wireless communication service that promises the data rate up too 114 Kpbs and contentious connection for mobile hones and computer users.    

WAP - (Wireless Application Protocol) is a specification for a set of communication protocols to standardize the way that wireless devices, such as cellular telephones and radio transceivers, can be used for Internet access.

MCP - it connects devices to one another and it is what is used too stable the overall connection within the house hole.

2D vs 3D Graphics processor - this is the difference between graphics in which you can see from the from which is 2D and then Graphics in which you can see 360 degrees whilst looking at something on a game

Subscription TV - TV in which you pay on either a monthly or weekly basic this is TV in which you have o pay for in order too receive all the channels on you subscription

 ETV - This is what is required for a computer and a TV to bee in the same room and it is what is need for them to both be fully capable whilst in the same room.

API - A method in which a programmer can make request within a game.

Interpreted programming languages for games - Open Flow can simplify networks, yet the protocol itself is complex. Network programming languages Frenetic and Pyre tic streamline Open Flow SDN.

compiled programming languages for games - a special program in which compresses games to compile a game and too make it understand certain commands

Object oriented programming - Object-oriented programming (OOP) is a programming paradigm that represents concepts as "objects" that have data fields (attributes that describe the object) and associated procedures known as methods. Objects, which are usually instances of classes, are used to interact with one another to design applications and computer programs.

scripting languages for games - Is a lightweight multi-paradigm programming language designed as a scripting language with extensible semantics as a primary goal. Lua is cross-platform since it is written in ANSI C.[1] Lua has a relatively simple C API.


Types of RAM

SRAM
 A type of memory chip  which is faster and requires less than dynamic memory.

DRAM
A memory chip that depends on an applied voltage to keep the stored date. 

EDO DRAM  
A type of DRAM that is faster than conventional DRAM unlike conventional DRAM which can only be access by one blog of data at a time.  

SDRAM
Synchronous dynamic random access memory is dynamic random access memory that is synchronized with the system bus. Classic DRAM has an asynchronous interface, which means that it responds as quickly as possible to changes in control inputs

DDR SDRAM
Double data rate synchronous dynamic random-access memory is a class of memory integrated circuits used in computers

RDRAM
Direct Ram bus DRAM or DRDRAM is a type of synchronous dynamic RAM. RDRAM was developed by Ram bus inc., in the mid-1990s as a replacement for then-prevalent DIMM SDRAM memory architecture

VRAM
a type of RAM used in computer display cards.

Game timeline

1960

The sort of games what came out in the 1960 for pc gamers were games like space war this game was based on a space and rocket simulator based game the game consisted  2 player and the aim of this game was for players to each player  taking control of a spaceship and attempting to destroy the other. A star in the centre of the screen pulls on both ships and requires manoeuvring to avoid falling into it. In an emergency, a player can enter hyperspace to return at a random location on the screen, but only at the risk of exploding if it is used too often this games was important because it give people and idea on what games designers were capable off.

1970

The first home 'console' system was developed by Ralph Baer and his associates. Development began in 1966 and a working prototype was completed by 1968 (called the "Brown Box") for demonstration to various potential licensees, including GE, Sylvania, RCA, Philco, and Sears, with Magnavox eventually licensing the technology to produce the world's first home video game console.
The Magnavox Odyssey had a game called pong on it the aim of the games was to hit a ball back and forth between two players until one player eventually scored and the game e would finish. The console was one of the first to feature TV advertisement and it was the very first home console for people to play on at home.

1980


In the earliest consoles, the computing logic for one or more games was hardwired into microchips using discrete logic, and no additional games could ever be added. In other words, these consoles were single-purpose computers, not programmable computers; there was no software, only hardware, so no change of software was possible. This was an obvious issue for developers; customers would have to buy a whole new device to attach to their TV sets in order to play different games. By the mid-1970s, game consoles contained general-purpose microprocessors and video games were found on cartridges, starting in 1976 with the release of the Fairchild Video Entertainment System (VES)
Programs were burned onto ROM chips (ICs) that were mounted inside plastic cartridge casings that could be plugged into slots on the game console. When the cartridges were plugged in, the ROM electrically became a part of the microcomputer in the console, just as if the ROM ICs were on the same circuit board with the microprocessor inside the console, and the microprocessor would execute whatever program was stored in the ROM. Rather than being confined to a small selection of games included in the game system, consumers could now amass libraries of game cartridges.

1990

The 1990s were a decade of marked innovation in video gaming. It was a decade of transition from sprite-based graphics to full-fledged 3D graphics and it gave rise to several genres of video games including, but not limited to, the first person shooter, real-time strategy, survival horror, and MMO. Handheld gaming began to become more popular throughout the decade, thanks in part to the release of the Game Boy. Arcade games, although still relatively popular in the early 1990s, begin a decline as home consoles become more common.

 In the 1987 and ending in 1996, the fourth generation of video game consoles consisted primarily of games and systems programmed for the 16-bit era. During this generation, 2D graphics had improved over the previous generation and experimentation began to occur with 3D graphics, although 3D games were more prevalent on the PC at the time. The fourth generation also was the first time Compact Discs were considered a viable port for video game retail sales with the CD-I. Some of the most notable systems released during this generation were the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the saga mega drive genesis. 

2000

During February 4, 2000 the 1st annual Dreamcast Championships (featuring the Sonic Adventure video game).soon after this during the time of March 2000 Game Network hosts the 2nd annual Independent Games Festival (IGF). A few days after that March 4, Sony's PlayStation 2 (PS2) launches in Japan with 10 launch titles. Because of this during April that year Nintendo sells its 100 millionth Game Boy handheld console. Because PlayStation became popular PlayStation 2 console will export controls by Trade Ministry of Japan since the PS2 is sophisticated enough for military application. Soon after this May 11, Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences hosts the 3rd Annual Interactive Achievement Awards inducts Hironobu Sakaguchi of Square Enix to the AIAS Hall of Fame. Because of that it became the 6th annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3); the 3rd annual Game Critics’ Awards for the Best of E³. June 26, International Game Developers Association renamed from Computer Game Developers Association. After this Nintendo's Satellaview system ceases to receive broadcasts. A few months after September 10, Sega.com launches Sega Net, their online console gaming network.

2010 + 

During the time of 2000 game consoles become more developed and ended up becoming some of the most popular things available as the years pass the console become better and better so is the reason why we have ended up with the Xbox genre the PlayStation genre and the WII and computer genre these are the four main competitors for this current day and age and they haven’t failed us yet when it comes to gaming so that is why they have survived over the years and that is why there are only these four competitors in this current day and age days and that is why I have each one off these because I believe that they are extremely fun and they don’t seem to get any worse than their competitors are in this day and age.
